How do I interpret scripture?

City of Joy Team • Jul 15, 2021

One of the most important things a believer must learn is how to read and understand God’s word. If we do not know how to interpret what we read in scripture, we can be easily led astray.

Here are some of our favorite resources that will help you to know God’s word, properly understand the context of each verse, and apply it to your life.

The Gospel is the Good News of Jesus Christ! That He has taken our punishment on himself and has given us all of His rewards- adopting us into His family!

The Gospel is the motivation to be who we already are in Christ! This changes the way we read the Bible. It is not just a book of rules or list of commands from God. When we connect the commands of scripture to the fuel to accomplish those commands (the gospel), it changes the way we read it.

Here’s a helpful resource on gospel Indicatives (fuel to accomplish what you should do), and Imperatives (what you should do)
